Postgraduate Research

Aspiring PhD candidates in the broad field of cultural Modernism are encouraged to submit project ideas and applications to the Centre Director, Scientia Professor Julian Murphet, or the Graduate Affairs Officer, Dr Sean Pryor, for the Centre of Modernism Studies in Australia (CMSA). 

Modernist architecture

They can provide advice on their research and information on a range of postgraduate activities in the Centre.

We invite graduate research proposals in the areas of:

  • modernist literature
  • modernist theatre
  • 'continental' philosophy
  • modernist music
  • modernist architecture
  • modernist visual arts

Advice and guidance

Our experienced staff at the CMSA can advise on a number of topics including suitable supervisors, School and Faculty affiliation, professional development, publication opportunities, conference and seminar participation and much more!

Workshops

There is also a monthly graduate research workshop in some fields of Modernism Studies. These workshops allow higher degree research students to participate in focused discussion on elected subjects with a professional in the field.
